Advancd United States History provides a comprehensive overview of U.S. history and to provide students with the analytical skills and factual knowledge necessary to deal with the problems and issues of U.S. history. You will learn to assess historical materials - their relevance to a given interpretive problem, their reliability, and their importance - and to weigh the evidence and interpretations presented in historical scholarship. Advanced U.S. history will help develop the skills necessary to arrive at conclusions on the basis of an informed judgment and to present reasons and evidence clearly and persuasively in an academic essay format. You will exit the class prepared for the state exam, as well as holding the analytical and composition skills necessary to be successful in a collegiate academic atmosphere.
This course is designed to provide you, the student, with a survey of the history of the United States beginning with Pre-Colombian America prior to 1492, and ending with the international affairs and domestic changes in the modern world. All students who complete this course are encouraged to take the exam that will be given this year in May. There is a charge for the AP Exam ($87).
